Well, looks like the trade IS going to happen, so I'll be a 5th wheelin' travellin' fool once I get a truck with enough power and the hitch. "Hit da road, Jack!" Can you say Rat Rods Rule Power Tour? :D

cool!
how long is it?
when you get it
we could start a club
RAT RODDER WITH ....um....campers?[S
nevermind;)

the ram 3500 cummins i got from I.R.POPS sure has been a great purchase.
everything i have hitched it to
it has pulled easily

Nice. I've been thinking about something like that, maybe a little smaller, so I can go south in the winter.
I see a lot of them on the road and some of those newer ones with the walk in (or up) front bedroom look like they would be the shizzlin drits in a head wind.

i can stand up and walk around in the master bedroom in the front of this
i got 15 mpg bringing it home at 50-52mph but if i go 60mph i get 9mpg

I like the idea, billy!

...so I can go south in the winter..

And I go north in the summer. Say, maybe we are onto something here. ;)

Hell yeah !!! A no club - no rules, no dues, no BS. :D

Not sure how long it is, and haven't seen but a small crummy phone pic of part of the side. I know it has a door and a window and it's white. The guy is going to put the rest of the paneling back in and then deliver and pick up the Poontiac. If it's crap, I'll send him back home. {As you have said MANY times, no more buying projects!} In case I haven't already said so, it comes with a 4000W generator and a 150cc scooter.

That sounds just about perfect to me. I'm on the hunt already! Anyone wanna trade for a yard full o' projects??? [ddd

that generator is on my wishlist
as far as the truck
the dually makes me feel so much safer
sure it cost more and is bigger
but for my piece of mind its worth it
what would be a catastrophic blowout. is just a flat tire
i dont have a lot of experience towing so i get nervous sometimes

I have LOTS of experience towing, so no problem there. The dually rear end sounds like a GREAT idea, for the stability and tire issue you mentioned. Besides, they just look cool to my prejudiced eye. Maybe I can talk Jess into helping build a dually 5th wheel hauler out of the '59? Diesel of course. Nah, who wants to ride around in some old truck ... ;)

my dream rig is a cummins powered 1940-ish dodge power wagon

AzDave, I've often wondered why more southern USAers don't do what you're planning, going north in the summer. A lot of Canadians go south in the winter down to your neck of the woods and then come back up here in the summer to where it is very nice, [in our summer].

Yeah, Mac. We get all those, and there are some that have the money to "get outa dodge" when the temperature goes up. I don't have that option right now, taking care of my folks every evening, but one day I'll live the Ricky Nelson tune, "Travellin' Man." :)

(The young guys are saying, Ricky who?)

Why go big ?

Why go big & pull a monster behind ya when ya could go small & enjoy the trip ? 013.jpg
We've owned a lotta campers over the years from 30 ft 5th wheel to small van type ... the teardrop is new for us(built it over the winter) , maybe I'm getting old but the more stuff we brought along the more stressful it became .... so
thought maybe this is the answer ...... we'll let ya know at the summers end .

OURS IS A SECOND HOME
the 27 footer was too small
to go camping i would just get a camper for the bed of the truck

the furnace wont light and i havent tried the fridge ,microwave yet
the oven and the stereo work fine

I have lived in my 26.5' bumper while working out if town. It's ok as long as your not stuck in it all day but I wouldn't want to live full time in it.

Billy I was referring to AZ Dave , I realize you got yours for a guest house.
What I meant was for us the bigger the camper got the more stuff we'd drag with it and the need for a dedicated tow vehicle and then the hassle of pulling
into a lot of smaller camp grounds -- tight turns -:(- low branches it just got to be to much with a 30fter .
I could see a smaller 5th wheel ... maybe 20fter I'd think it'd be easier to man.

my wife hates the idea of a truck bed camper
she likes the space
but i told her flat out this 36 footer is way to big to go a yodeling over hill n dale with.:D
a 20 with a big ole pull out would be ideal

i saw a vintage airstream looking truck bed camper recently
that was really cool
all shiny rounded polished aluminum[cl

i did some homework on this trailer
it was the top of the line 4 season model in its day
2 1/2 inch thick rigid floor insulation
and the same with walls ,roof
42000 BTU furnace
it seems very well made
all the plumbing is tucked into the sealed compartment underneath.
lots of vents big windows and stuff.
i am going to pull the furnace and bench test /diagnose why it doesnt light
