My company has an office in Montreal. The first time I tried to go there after 9/11 I told them I was coming in to work at our office. Wrong answer!! They pulled me into a room and started questioning me, etc. One smart a$$ agent said "We can't just come down there and work." I said "Sure you can, we have lots of menial work." Needless to say, that didn't help my cause much :p
After a little chat with some of the senior people at the Montreal office they finally let me through. I was told that I am to say I'm coming in to visit friends, vacation, etc.
When I was growing up in Detroit I used to go to Canada all the time to play hockey & never had a problem ay either end. Stupid terrorists! They really screwed things up.
Sorry to hear about your problems. Hopefully you can get it worked out soon.

Right they fumbled 911 so bad that they had intended to knock down two buildings with jets but "they" somehow knocked down three!

I made a trip into Canada about 26 years ago in a truck. Going in was no problem. Went to our destination, unloaded and started back out. Went into the scalehouse on I think the QEW, got a green light, pulled back out into the road. About a mile down the road, some kind of cop wants me to pull over, so I do. It's the scalemaster, claims I ran the scales! Escorted me back to the scalehouse to write me a ticket. He wouldn't listen to me or my co-driver, we both told him that the light was green. Then the smartass threatened to hold us there and make somebody else drive the truck out of the country! He wrote out the ticket and told us to get out of the country. We went out at a different place than we went in, and they got ****ed about that! You'd think if they wanted us out that bad, it wouldn't matter where we went out at!

Cost me about $125 back then, and I've never had a desire to go back! With all the BS now, I sure don't want to try to get in.

So, how you gonna get the Galaxie across the border now?

I live about 35 miles from the Sarnia/Port Huron crossing. For the most part it's been fine, but I have had a taste of the ego tripping type on both sides. When things look like there about to go bad, I've handed over my "Licence to Fart" ID. Has always got a chuckle and a "Yeah ok...get outta here."

I'm probably going to have to get my friend Josh to drive it up and I"ll buy him a ticket return. Or figure something else out. I"m just about to head to the airport now. Everything I've been reading says it was more than likely just because I didn't have a return ticket, and that this happens to Canadians pretty frequently I guess. I've got 5 years of tax returns, 2 years of phone bills, proof of rental payment, credit card bills for the last year and a half, bank statements for the year, return ticket, hotel reservations, health bills etc as well as passport, drivers license, social insurance card and Alberta health care card. If that doesn't prove ties to Canada I"m not sure what will. Even then, it's up to the CBO in the end. Wish me luck muchachos!

Got through without even a second glance! I'm off to Chicago and NC for a couple weeks! I am, however, seriously considering filing a complaint over the way I was treated. I agree, they have every right to question everyone's intentions when coming to the United States, but I'm fairly certain the way I was treated was over and beyond what was warranted in that situation. I don't have a criminal record and I was polite the entire time (even though inside I was raging)....

Anyways, it is what it is...I'm going to Chicago!!!

Travel trouble

Odd you had so much trouble,We have a place here in Fla. The VILLAGES full of Canadians and another town in south Fla all the stores are Mexican run and when the Mexicans head north the town shuts down til they come back. The one thing I see Canada hotrodders have bad is the outrageous price you all pay to have stuff shipped from the U.S.

I was telling my Son who had that band fiasco at the border about what happened to you. He told me the band had to say they were just coming to Canada for recreation, not to play a gig there. He said it was a little funny because they had all their instruments with them, but they just said they like to practice a lot and wanted to practice between sight seeing. :D I guess Canadians don't want even musicians coming there to work.

Who would have ever thought it was so hard to get in or out of Canada ?? He also said your booze is super expensive.

yeah Deadbolt's had some trouble trying to get up here before too from what they've told me. Our booze isn't too bad...depends on the province really. Alberta is pretty decent, but there's no PST so that's a plus. only 7% tax on stuff here. And if you go to a reservation prices are even lower...but sometimes they get iffy if you're not with res. member

I am indeed in Linconshire! The guys get here in an hour or so and then it's game on. The hotel was nice enough to stock all three of our bar fridges with complimentary Coors. They must have heard from somewhere that that's the beverage of choice of the band haha. I could get used to this "with the band" thing haha

haha I've gotten 7 or 8 proposals in the last week or so...haha
side note....ugh. breakfast/brunch/lunch bloody marys are in order. Got to sleep finally around 5 or 6 am, awake by 9 and at the airport for 11:30 so the guys could catch their flights. I'm here for another hour or so then it's off to NC to do it all again!
