Another day of fitting small pieces of sheet metal in the trunk area. This takes a little longer than I would have expected but then again I am getting something done. The gas tank fits nice and firm now it is held in by the lips of the tank on all 4 sides. I will probably strap the top so it cant move up with bounce. A little more sheet metal and I will be done in this area. I did not want to get bottle necked and make it harder to do the insides of the trunk. Now was the time to do it. As I have more room now than I will later with more done around the trunk. Photos are here..

Hey rsfyj, A great job so far. I too have cut out and saved some applicance metal. I've been told that it's too thin for floorboards though. So I'm faced with something over a hundred bucks to buy some 19 ga. sheet. When one is on fixed income, it slows down the progress. Keep up the good work and recycling! perley

you get the right appliance it should be 18 gauge the older the appliance the better thats when they done things right. Stoves are the best for thickness..

By the way the other stove I was going to get, well it was mangled pretty good so I left it in the dump. There will be another day.....

Some more slow trunk panels, but I am nipping away at this piece job. Got another long skinny piece on the left side rail and fitted a larger back piece. I may use the back piece as a template I don't like the texture on the metal surface, looks like a rolled on pattern. Anyway I have the size and shape all set ill see what happens if I should use it.

Well I decided I will keep the ugly looking sheet metal it will be hidden in the trunk and painted. I didn't want to waste my time and effort that I expended fitting this piece. It actually stiffened up some after I welded it in. My trunk area is done except for a tiny corner piece that I will get to. Once the side metal along the wheels are on the trunk will be completely closed, except for the trunk lid skin. I have plans to run a piece of 3/4 inch conduit along the chassis rail from front to rear to run electrical wires for the rear. This way my rear wiring will be shielded and easy to fish through the conduit. I have big plans and little money, hehe we will see what I end up with. Photos coming.

Out of Curiousity....

Any idea / guess on what this ride is going to weight? Just wondering....not sure what wall thickness tubing you are using...Not being critical...seriously, just curious on what you think it will weigh.....[S

not over 2600 lbs, ive built many dirt cars that have to weigh 2600lbs or more to make it legal to race. My 1948 Ford Coupe weighed in at 2750 lbs with ind susp all around

Cool deal......

should make a decent power to weight ratio....nice..

even if it was heavier it wont hurt the cars performance the engine came out of a 3200 lb car and it went like, well you know what im getting at. this will be a fast food run car I had my share of real fast and power type cars.

I fooled around with more sheet metal today. I cut the burners out of the stove top to see what ideas I could get on the rear tail lights etc. I didn't think they were going to work so ill shelve them for now. I also made a new piece of metal for the right side outer rain near the trunk. Ill weld it tomorrow if all goes well. Just nipping away at this..photos

Don't know where my posts went? Earlier posts disappeared. I worked a few hours today after we got 2 inches of snow and ice with rain. My compressor seized up oil leaked out of the sight glass when i was in the house. Luckily I bought 2 larger compressor heads for 100 bucks. I'll put them on in the spring when its warmer. Photos coming

My compressor was made in the 1940s and has been a good one the sight glass should be replaced with a dip stick. Sight glasses are Cave man engineering as far as I am concerned. Anyway just one compressor cylinder is larger than both cylinders that seized up on me. They are used but they work. Just another cash set back, heheh. Like sanders I dislike air grinders to noisy, I have always preferred electric sanders and grinders over air. I just bought a Black& Decker sander polisher with a variable speed trigger for sanding. My other sander was destroyed when i loaned it out and the gentlemen spilled beer on the motor and never told me. When I took it apart to see it stunk of beer. I stopped loaning anything out. Anyway photos coming..
