Today I had a few hours to devote to the Rod. I smacked and whacked the trunk lid frame to get it to fit a little better. Still needs something yet. I also started to fill the void in the rear lower part of the trunk opening frame work.. plus I scrounged some tubing pieces to brace the gas tank in a few places. needs more. I also started to fool around with hinges for the trunk lid. I had the Hood hinges from the Mustang 11 that I junked for the parts. I had to cut off the parts I needed so it would open all the way. I have some photos. I will have to reinforce the hinges with some 1/8 inch material or fabricate new ones from 1/8 inch flat stock. Either will work for me Ill see what develops. Once I get the trunk hinged and opens and closes good enough then Ill consider some skin for it.

Super cold here today `14 degrees, and I didn't stay in the shop very long no sense in heating the outside air as my ceiling needs to be lowered ,next year to save heat. Any way I fabricated stronger hinge brackets than what was on the Mustang 11. They were made of sheet metal not very thick. I made mine from 1/8 inch thick steel and welded the sides. I also used a 3/4 inch tubing piece to hold everything square and tight as I welded the bracket. I will send up some photos. I may box in the hinge itself with sheet metal as it has a hollow channel on the underside. it twists. A photo shows metal covering the hollow part. just a matter of cleaning the edges and drill some holes so I can spot weld it to the hinge.

Sometimes the best plans and ideas are just not the way to go, as I found out today. I spent a considerable amount of time prepping and beefing up these trunk hinges etc. And when it was all said and done they didn't work as thought. The trunk bound up with those curved hinges, so I grabbed an old pair of door butt hinges of the shelf and clamped them into the same area, and wallah the trunk opens nicely and closes. So I will go the butt hinge route here. I will buy a set of steel ones so I can weld them and maybe contour them a little to disguise them some. I have the photos enjoy my mistake.

Trial and error. I just spent the afternoon doing it myself. How about some big 'ol pirate chest hinges on there?
Or some external trunk hinges from a late '30's car.

Hmm I will probably use what I have, cause I have more time and junk than I do cash.

rsfyj. You are an extremely resourceful, clever and talented man, sir. This just boggles my mind, creating from scratch! Keep it coming. perley

Thanks for the comments, i took the day off most places closed for New Years. I will get different cheap barn style strap hinges on Mon or Tue depending on closed or open.
