I have to say that I was a little cold on the V-Dub front end too, but yes it works for me now with that grill in place. I also just wanted to add that the strength of those front ends is incredable. I had a dune buggy as a kid that my dad and I build from a 70 bug. I beat the ever loving bejebbers out of that buggie and never once bent or otherwise had a failure in any of its suspension front or rear. Great looking job all the way around, keep thoughs pics coming.

Yesterday I picked up the engine, transmission, shifter, steering column, fuse box, radiator, fan, driveshaft, gauges, gas pedal, and probably more that I am forgetting..

All FREE

Anyway, here's a picture of the engine I am using
(not actual engine, it's raining right now so I can't get a pic, but it's the same thing)

lol...

I would love to find a Mopar motor for it, but I am VERY poor and have to go with what is free... Right now as it sits, I have less than $900 into the whole truck, and about the only thing left to buy is a master cylinder, some brake lines, fuel lines, and pump, metal for the floor, windows, and cut the driveshaft..
Oh, and some lights.. lol

I'm trying to do this as cheap as possible ;)

I'm with you blue ,i can definatly relate .but this will be a great build when its done .cheap and a lote of fun.
I'm running a strait 6 in mine because i already had it laying around and caint aford another v-8 right now.
Love the grill ,looks killer.:)

Here's the dash at the start of lunch and at the end of lunch..

I can't afford new gauges so I grabbed the ones out of the donor vehicle that I grabbed the engine and wiring from.. I kept all the wiring in tact so I should be able to just plug in the gauges and they should all work :D

I think once the dash is cleaned and painted, it should look alright..

Gauges fit well in there, looks like it was made for the dash. Sure hate to see the old ones go, but what can you do.
I still think you may be driving it on New years Day. You are fast.

Ya, I liked the looks of the old ones better, but the speedo was broken, and I didn't know if the others worked (the gas gauge would not have with my sending unit)

Check back tomorrow... there should be some major progress...
I don't have to work in the morning, so I'll have more than just an hour to play with it :p

Well my little project is about a month old now...

I had the day off today, so I got to put some good time in on the truck.. I've been working 45 min at a time during my lunch breaks..

Today I did the first pass at doing a complete weld on the top after the chop, I also dropped in the engine and transmission..

I found out I am going to have to cut the grill down a bit more, it sits higher than the cowl, so I need to lose about 5".. I'll do that tomorrow morning.

Now I can get started on a transmission tunnel and putting a floor in it :D

those are the exact same gauges i have for my truck dude. thats great, motor is going to look good in there when it's all done.

Engine looks like it belongs there, and the VW front looks like it likes it too. I see what you mean about the grill, but I am sure you will work it out. Keep up the good work.

The truck looks good and is coming together nicely. I see what you mean about the grill. It's ashamed you have to cut it down after doing all that work on it, but that's the way builds go. It'll be worth the effort.

Dang it Blue, you are making me want to work on mine again. :D Your truck is looking good. I think those gauges fit in there pretty well. Plus you know they will work with your setup. Very smart what you did with the grille. It is one of the ugliest in stock form, but you made it look great.

I'm in the middle of cleaning my shop and every time I walk by my Dodge it keeps tempting me.............

Thanks Don..

You need to get working on yours.. When I first found this site I got all excited to see that you had one, and was disappointed reading your thread that you decided to take a break from it for a while, it was looking REAL good!!

Great looking truck and fab work. I too, was leary of the VW front end, but with that grill, it works. Computers, are you using the one of the donor car or using a stand alone?

Thanks..

I have all the wiring from the donor car and plan to use that, so that I can use the fusebox, lighting circuits, dash with gauges, etc..

Hey Blue your truck is definitely bitchin and from one Mopar nut to another I was just giving you crap......................I do admire the fact that your able to do this so cheap too.
