Hometown stuff again...

I have no idea what's going on here. Some Christmas lights are strung and the Shriner's marching band is forming. [S

I've been trying for years to get you some pictures of my high-school car, a pink and black 1956 Meteor. Maybe this time it'll work.
The car must have been in an accident before I got it because it had a primered, '55 Meteor front clip on it. I bought it when I was 15 and still have it.
This car made me go get a black '56 hardtop.

As I mentioned some time ago, I have a collection of colour slides. Locations are from all over southern SK and mostly rural/small town.

Doc, what great collection of pics. Any idea what the gathering is about in the third shot? Must be an early rat rodder with the license plates all over the back of his Model A. Is the semi circle around the beef an auction or an exhibition?

great shots again [cl

I do have a question about the last one though.... I`m sure there`s a language barrier or something, but... the Cockshutt next to the co-operative ***....? [S

Is that a Canadian thing we should know about...?

Third shot: With the rail cars, it must be market day for your... hogs?

Semi circle: I see several kids among the animals and several women in the crowd. I'm guessing, 4H calf club.

Cockshutt was a Canadian farm equipment manufacturer and they clearly have an alliance with the local co-operative. This was common in the day. The next town might be aligned with a different manufacturer, and so on and so on and so on...

Yes it's a Canadian thing; Co-op would buy Cocksutt tractors and machinery, paint them rust coloured and sell them as 'Co-op's'.
And Dutch, because I've seen the twinkle in your eye every time you have trouble with the English language, I get the feeling that your language barrier is NOT formidable, ----- but it gives me a chuckle.

More slides.

Today, we visit Dozer's tiny hamlet as it was in the '50s...

I've never been to Dozerville, so I took a virtual tour with Google... near as I can tell, the house no longer exists but the church still stands, just a stone's throw from Dozer's current location. :p

This is Canada's bread basket for sure, accompanied by large portions of Manitoba and Alberta.

I have 50 or 60 more of these slides and I will post them all eventually. Of course, I'm constantly collecting pictures because I'm an addict. :D
