Finished my new console/radio mount this morning. Looks as good as I imagined. Actually better, hahaha!
Now time to chase down the wires, get everything connected and mounted.

Ron’s working on the fuel tank today. We’re tired of pushing it every time we need to move the car for something! Waiting on the glass shop to get the glass installed in the windshield frame. After the fuel tank is resolved back on the hood and front panels to completion and let the fun begin!

Well no new pics just yet but a major breakthrough in the brake/turn signal issue.

I almost hate to tell this on myself. Radio wired just waiting on antenna. I was going to disconnect the circuit with the radio for Ron. When I went to identify which fuse to pull, I discovered I was reading the placement of the fuses wrong. I turned it the correct way and guess what I found…a burnt fuse! All that time spent trying to find the problem and it was right under my nose. Making last minute adjustments and finishing the body work on the hood. Poor Ron, this is the 3rd time he’s worked on this hood due to changes in other areas. I think I mentioned in an earlier post, anytime you change one thing on this car it effects 15 others!

Some different welding rods expected tomorrow. We hope to get the fuel tank completed by end of the week. Still waiting on the windshield hopefully it will show up soon.

Here’s a helpful tip…

We installed the 12 circuit wiring harness from Speedway. Considering what we are working with for the most part a good choice for our application. As everyone who has read the latest post we’ve been having problems with turn signals and brake lights. We fixed the brake light problem with replacing a blown fuse. Not so lucky with the turn signals. However, we did find the solution and now everything is working as it should.

The problem was the flasher was wired backwards for LED lighting! I converted my tail and front park/turn signal lights to LEDs. We had an extra headlight plug wired it backwards plugged it into the existing socket and we have turn signal lights. Hopefully, this will save others days worth of work chasing down a very simple solution to finally resolve the issue.

Right you are, 67, the LED lights don't draw enough current to heat up the bimetal strip in the flasher and make it break contact. The new, LED flashers are wired differently, so they don't plug into the old flasher receptacle, and work.

Ron’s finalizing the fuel tank. Tomorrow we do a final test. If we pass on it goes and we’re back under power once again.

Today we were back on the hood to finalize the hood latch system, made a template to make a small bug shield on the front of the hood and final fit before paint. Windshield is back and mounted so we can finish the roll bar height. Having an issue with my bargain radio. Powers on but after a few seconds it powers down and won’t come back on until I turn the key off and back on. Good thing I have a backup. I’m hoping I find a quick solution so I can wrap up that project.

Tomorrow I go looking for a 1” x 32” piece of stainless steel polished or polish able…is that a word! We just need a hood latch and fuel tank to get out on the road.

Radio installed, template made for our bug shield and fuel tank repaired. We’re in the final stages of completing our hood latch. The plan is to have her back on the road Tuesday! Hood won’t be painted until a little later in the week…after we’ve had some fun driving it out on the highway. We have a few more details to tie up. With that said, I expect it will be back in my garage for the first time in about 2 years next week!

Here’s our template for the bug shield. We’re going to put a band of stainless along the bottom edge to add a little bling and illusion!

Man was it hot today! Fuel tank installed today. We’re back under power! Installed the passenger seat and we went for a cruise over to a different upholstery shop to discuss making a new cockpit cover, dash trim and pad. I didn’t get the feeling he was too interested.

We had a good cruise anyway. No leaks, everything including the new radio worked. Great to see it with the seats back in with seat belts installed. The hood comes off tomorrow so we can finish the hood latch, install new headlight switch, recalibrate the fuel gauge and painting. Windshield goes back to repair cracked glass. Everyone is looking forward to getting this project finished and back home.

Fuel tank repaired and installed. Hood latch finished and hood support arm brackets welded in place. Ron’s prepping the underneath side of the hood with seam sealer where edge of hood is welded to the edge strap iron before undercoat sound deadening applied. Took it out for its first road test before the hood came off for the last time for paint. So far, I’m enjoying the new EFI system. No leaks, no over heating and the acceleration was responsive.

I had a terminal break off of my headlight switch. Found a replacement got it installed. Went to check everything and no stop, turn or flashers. I have a feeling we pinched a wire when installing the fuel tank. We’ve isolated the grounded circuit to the right rear tail light. Just when you think you’re done!

Hood latch worked out well. Clean and effective. Also, added bonus the mounts for the hood supports work as a rest stop on top of engine panels. Glued some rubber strips in place and worked perfect. We have everything ready to drill grill and install our bug deflector. So close to coming home!

7/13/22

Finished all of the electronics and installed the aluminum cover for the last time. Hood is getting close to being painted and next to be installed. We plan to finish the work on the grill and modify the panel sitting below so it fits around our new hood latch support tomorrow.

A quick look back and the finished product was worth the work and the wait!

Finished the grill, got our hood lock bracket painted and completed our bug screen. Ron’s finishing the hood for paint and some final adjustments to our front frame cover pieces.

Grill back on, bug shield installed and roll bar ready to be tacked and off to be welded and installed. The list is getting shorter and shorter.with some luck she’ll be home end of next week. But will we ever be done…
