He He He. I bet many will miss the sarcasm in what he posted.

That thread sort of brings home a point. Many of the so called "traditional experts" live in a dream world believing that every hot rod churned out of every shop in the 40's and 50's were typical of the magazine cover cars of the era. Not so. A vast number of them are what most would call rat rods now days.

The car pictured below is a real-deal late 40's dry lakes racer. If a fella was to build this same car today and post it on a hardcaore traditional site, he would suffer a beating for building an ugly rat rod.

OH NO... what r we gonna do now that we found out... rat rods really are TRADITIONAL!?!?!?!?!?!?!
 
The reason that 24dodge didn't post the response here garvinzoom was because of the language.

Oh, I understand. If it hadnt bleeped it for me I would not have posted it, I thought it was werid that they have not responded to it over there.

If that post is not cool with everybody I will delete it, I sometimes forget myself.

I've been saying for a long time that a lot of the cars I grew up with looked exactly like some of the rats you see today. The one with the flexible exhaust pipe in that picture is very close to the ones I am talking about. The only finished, painted cars I remember seeing where in magazines.

Uncl Ian said it well, we didn't stay stagnant on new stuff coming out, we jumped on any new trick or accessory to make our cars faster and better. Tradition to me is people being inventive and creative. As soon as we saw someone with a new part on their car we had to save up and have one too.

Tradition is also that we had some real abortions back then too. We didn't know much and had very little money or tools to work with, so we cobbled a lot of things together. Very few places had off the shelf parts like we can 1-800 today, so we built 99 percent of it at home. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't work.

That is why I like rat rods, they remind me of the spirit of the cars I grew up with..........built by Fathers and Sons in their own backyards or garages. It is that kind of inventiveness that built this country and why we won two world wars. I bet there are more cars going together in backyards and home garages than ever before, and the rat rod movement was responsible for a large portion of that growth. People now realize you don't have to have a huge bank account or fully equipped shop to enjoy this great hobby.

That my friends is tradition. :D:D

The whole thing is kind of funny, in a weird way. A lot of years ago when I was just a young buck, it was hard to buy an old T or A, at least at an amount I could afford. All the complaints, and bitchin, came from the older crowd that was restoring the old cars and stuff. I, and many like me, were told how were destroying the cars by hot rodding them, and worst yet, smashing them up on the oval tracks. Now, alot of people, many of them a lot younger than me, are doing the samething, and giving me the same old grief. If I don't build the car/truck to their specs, it's just all wrong!! It's can be tough being and individual, and to think for yourself. I like ALL styles of cars. I don't belong to any one camp. I'm with a few different forums, each with it's own tastes and style. This one give me a welcome as soon as came through the gate. Others, not so much. A couple of them have blinders on, and it's become "my way or the high way." It's all to bad, I thought the cars and the hobby were for everyone. Maybe thing haven't changed all that much, I just older! :( Sniper
 
I like ALL cars and I can truely appreciate a person`s efforts towards the build, no matter if it is my style or not.
I have a friend who is restoring a classic Packard. It`s a very rare car and he has gone to very great lengths to make the car "day one" in it`s restoration. This is completely not my style, but again, I can really appreciate his efforts.
Same for the traditional rod builder. They hunt down the correct parts to make their car true to it`s history. Again --- not my style, but I appreciate this segment of hot rodding.
Me ? I have an affection for rat rods. The more creative - the better.

I hate any car that rides on a trailer, unless it`s broke.

I like old trucks too.

I like high-tech on old cars too. Nothing wrong with disc brakes or fuel injection.
