They used to have several balloon events in Colorado (don't know how many of these are still active) - at Steamboat Springs, Colorado Springs and southwest of Denver at Chatfield Reservour. Its amazing to watch them work the wind patterns at various elevations. I watched a group go up to several hundred feet, cross the lake, drop down to lake level (some splash the basket in the water just for fun), and then come back towards the launch site at the lower altitude. I never realized the wind currents varied so much with elevation. The big show in N.M. is on my bucket list already! Anybody want to venture a guess how much propane one of those large special shaped balloons goes through in a day?
