Hey guys been working a lot, priming and paint inside fenders ,firewall dash, doors ect...not much to show in pictures sorry. picked up a 92 Chevy donor for the engine and trans.:D changed my plans the deal was so good its a 454 with a 700R trans about 150K miles runs GREAT:D even passed smog here in Calif and that says a lot. the guy thought the trans was going out but it's only the flex plate is cracked making a key rattling sound, got it for a grand He's happy I'm happy. it has throttle body injection on it.my son in law says to run it, so does my mechanic. I want a good runner but I'm afraid of electronic part. they say I only need the injection part of the electronics not all the other smog crap....what do you Chevy guys say???help me decide. here's a couple of pic's

I like the T.B.I. motors, myself... Pretty simple as far as electronic engines go.

Depending on what direction you plan to go with the electrics, You can buy harness kits from most of the suppliers already set up to work with the ECM and injectors.

Truck looks GOOD so far... Best part is, you'll still be able to use it as a truck!:D

Kinda nice having a "do-over," 'specially when you think of stuff "I wish I'd done" after you get finished...

Regards,
Shea:)

Here are some pic's of my progress.....got the inside all panted,as well as the fender wells and firewall. I use black base and cover it with Bed Liner. I set the engine "on" the truck to see how low the springs would drop.as I'm using 17" wheels I will have to section about 2" out of the fenders.:((see photo)
I completely ran out of energy on Friday so it'll half to sit till Monday.I've decided to go with a carb setup.....Would like to find a 3-2's manifold for the 454......can't seem to find one anywhere???? I heard they made one for Vet's but still looking.....can anyone help me?

here's a picture of the 54 Ford I'm building for a friend its power is a Cummings, finished the fender wells and custom air box this week. trying to get my friend to put it all on the 92 3500 Chevy chassie that I got my 454 out of..the Cummings in a 58 year old frame and running gear makes NO cents and I told him from day one.....now he has a chance to update and hope he does. here is a couple of pic's of my shop front with gate and warning, the delta breeze blows thru from front to back cools the shop and my apt above. gate keeps the bums out....

Hey guys a little update, the 3x2s turned out to be tooo much $$$. so I picked up a Edelbrock 4 barrel. the motor mounts and frame cross member are built. I have mocked up the steering and started the heaters, bought a kit on ebay for zoomes. at the firewall they will bend down and run under my running boards. I will wrap them as to keep the heat down, a killer for 454s I'm told.:(

The deal on the 54 Ford/Cummings fell apart, along with a 35 yr friendship ( never do business with friends) he owed me money on the job to date and instead of paying me he dumped the whole thing on me. so now I'll be building it for myself and put it up for sale when its running. so I'll post 2 builds in one, hope its not confusing......

Hey how are you all? I've been working got the headers built and Ill tell you it was very hard to get the fit right I've been fabing for a long time and it just would not come together for me no matter what I did. their was a gap on the top or bottom. had to piece them a little but they have free flow, and my plan to wrap them because of heat will cover any ugly welds.....waiting for the rest of the pipes ("u"bends) then I will run them back under my running boards.(Yet to be built) after the fenders are done and my radiator is set up then the front end comes off and the engine comes out for panting and new motor mounts installed. at that time I will paint the cab and reinstall the engine and front end.I like to pretty much mock up the entire car while building it then teardown and paint and reassemble it...[cl

I've been working on the bed too, have the sides on, gas cap in,headboard done. have 2-4"work lights to make mounts for. ordered my fenders yesterday, have my air lines to the bags plumed they level out the truck great.....but one leaks I have a bad fitting I think[S the top edge came out pretty good now I need to in stall my copper hand rail 2" above the edge.
found a company around the corner that specializes in woven wire, some real nice looking designs. can get it in alum. SS and plain steel, plan on using it on my running boards as well the step on the back....and my grill.

the last picture is the 54 with the Cummings in it getting ready to build motor mounts as well as body mounts......see you later DougnSweetpea

Looking good, Doug. It will stand out in a crowd. You can blame the little welding problems on SweetPea.

Thanks Bob.......No I own my own problems, cataracts forming from years of welding, and shaky hands......getting old is a bitch, but I'm determined to ride this life to the last day.....I claim this saying for myself (author unknown)

Life's Journey is not to arrive at the grave in a well preserved body,
but rather to skid in sideways totally worn out, shouting
"Holy Sh** ........What a ride"......:D

1954 Ford

Just a quick up date on the 54. worked on it this last week till yesterday.
The first pic is for the ex-friend who dumped this job on me.....from a money maker to a money hole....anyway I have the motor mounts and trans mounts done, and finished the body mounts and front cross member.[;) I think the stance on the 92 Chevy 3500 frame is nice looking:D now it will be pulled apart and sandblasted, hopefully before the rain sets in here. once its primed and reassembled I will put it up for sale and continue to build it at the same time as I do my 47.....:(
A mechanic in the shop next to mine is helping (sandblasting) as work is slow for him, works cheep and allows me to get back on my 47....have more in a week :)

Nice work Doug. The cab looks like it belongs on that chassis.

Ya....it does. Thanks Bob for the comment. this is about the 5th time I've done body frame switches its getting easier, nothing like having a modern running gear on a old body.
only wish it would work for MY broken down running gear:rolleyes:

Hi Guys...

Well making progress got her all together the fab work is all most done, now to find a diesel mechanic to get her running. I have all the parts and wiring but I know when I'm out of my element. bought a factory repair manual for her on eBay, should help. I'll install all the hoses and lines and such. this next week I'll fab a steering column and install the brake and clutch pedals...... sure want to get back to my 47 truck.

I have a question for you guys who follow my build. What value would you put on this truck if you were to sell it? it will be running.
Body....1954 Ford 600 clear title on non op.
chassis....1992 Chevy 3500 Dually....miles 135k
engine 1989 Cummings 5.9 turbo 360 5 speed.....miles 87k
body is a 8 out of 10 in my opinion it does need some bodywork. it has been sandblasted and primed with Epoxy bare metal primer. Thanks

thanks man..... I'm not giving up. but my plan has been to sell it all along, as it was dumped on me by a so called friend. need to get back to my 47. really hoping on some input on value from you guys.[S

There comes a time when we all need to step back and take a good look at what we spend our time doing. its time for me to do the same, with this thread:rolleyes: it is clear that their is little to no interest in these projects.
So its time to shut them down. I have always viewed RRR as a place to share my talents and get insight into others builds. I can do the latter without all the keyboard work. Good luck Doug n Sweetpea

I guess I'm not sure what you are getting at here?

There are many people watching this thread... However, what something is worth is very subjective to who wants to buy your creation... I don't think anyone could accurately give you a price of worth on something that is one of a kind...

I think its a great project, it would be a shame if you didn't keep us updated on its progress..
