Good man, Torchie, but you may be tarred with the same stick that I am. You can't throw out something that is partly good yet. You'll work for a week on something to fix it up instead of going and buying a replacement.
Good work.

Shop time this morning....

....but didn't get done all that I hoped.
Took the parts over to my friends auto parts store to use their equipment.

Brake drums turned.
Most of the spring shackle studs out. Will put these on the drill press and finish drilling the rest out. 11/16 I believe.
And NO luck with the king pins. So in keeping with my credo of "Do no harm" the entire front axle assembly is being sent out to have the job done right.
At this point I would say that I was 1-1/2 for 3 today. Oh well......
Thanks for looking in.
Torchie.

I think they call them "King Pins" because when you actually get one replaced you feel like a king for having completed the task.

Still waiting for them to get pressed out Dr.
But since it is being done as a favor I really can't complain.:)
No progress on anything else as I have been too busy putting out fires. Plus I now have a case of the crud that has been making it's way around. By the time I even get around to thinking about wanting to work on the truck I am usualy exhausted.
Oh well. This too shall pass.
Thanks for checking in.
Torchie.

it it what it is....

Hang in there Torchie! It will get better and you'll be out there at it again!

Thanks DR.
Still no news on the kingpins other than "Man. They are really tight".

Pic 1 and 2. Did manage to drag my sorry a** out to the garage tonight.
Cleaned out the rest of the old shackle stud from the spring eye.

Pic 3 and 4. Cleaned up some and turned the truck so I can work on the DS door gaps.:)
The weather is finaly starting to shape up here and hopefully my attitude will change along with it.
Thanks for visiting.
Torchie.

Nice try, Earthman. Looks like summer will be measured in hours in the north country this year.

Nevertheless, we want to see it in action, uphill even, Torchie.

Agreed bob w. Going to be a short summer I'm afraid. But today it is 72 so life is good.:D

Sometimes the old ways are still the best. Broke out the sandblaster this morning and went after the front spring pack. Still awaiting word on the kingpins[P
Before and after pics.

Half the people of the world could make a car go downhill with a push. It takes a fabricator to make one that can go up hill and you certainly are a fabricator, so you have to have it finished this summer. You follow my logic?
Keep on tinkering, Torchie.

Todays effort to make the custom go uphill.......

Pics 1-2-3.
When I channeled the truck cab that of course brought down everything else with it including the inner fender panels. The first 3 pics shows the fender panel piece that was originaly cut off being trimmed again to mate up to the top piece that was left on the fender. Once I pull the fenders I will weld this to the top piece and trim the bottom clean. I then Will make rubber skirting to lay over the top of the frame and close up any gaps.

Pics 4 and 5. I then proceeded to pull the front clip. Doing this alone, I had to get a little creative. Always nice to have a dolly (or 3 ) to help.

Pics 6-7. Same with the hood. Unhang-em high....

Pic 8. Well this looks familiar....

Now that I know that all my pieces/parts will fit it is time to narrow done my focus. So for the coming days that focus will be on finishing up the cab.. Some minor rust repair. Finish the welding and grinding from the chop. Relocate some of the floor bracing due to the new cab position. Work on the firewall and then on to some bodywork.
Thanks for stopping by....
Torchie.

More of the boring stuff....

As stated earlier I'm going to concentrate on the cab. So lets start with the DS cowl.
Pics 1-2-3. Stripped the cowl. The skirt was cut off when I channeled the cab. Here it is tacked back on.
Pic 4. This bottom area of the cowl is probably the biggest rust issue that this truck has.:D Natural factory made water trap. So lets cut out the rust.
Pic 5. Look what came out.:eek:
Pic 6 -7 Little bit of shaping to the patch. I will coat the inside area with some rust converter before welding the patch back on. Metal is still solid. Just very pitted.
Pic 8. Skirt welded back into place.
Thanks for looking in.
Torchie.

Looking good [cl
That's the biggest fender bolt I think I ever saw [S
Keep up the good work [P

I knew that the ratchet had fallen down into the lower cowl as I dropped it yesterday taking off the hood hinges. Don't remember where the bolt came from though.[S[S
Just a sign that I have been taking to long working on this thing.
Torchie.
