Hey Torchie, things are looking great. Nice job on the steering wheel. Did you use slow cure JB?

I have been lurking a bit but pretty busy with other projects for a while. The bike has been a bit of a distraction and I have put in a bit of seat time to get my skills back. Camping season is hear as well. I've been out once already this year and going again this week end.

The honey do list has been pretty long this spring. I was on chain saw duty at the Father in laws. I told him you don't trim a hedge with a chainsaw, but he insisted.

Now he has a rat hedge!

Good to hear from you brother gold.:D
I know what you mean about the distractions. It's been a real rough year for us. No work. Sporadic source of income. Elder care on both sides.Health issue's and on and on....
And lots to clean up after that muther of a winter.

I just used regular old JB. Plenty of bench time to work it before it cures. We all look forward to seeing a post from you about your build. Even if all it says is that you went out and blew the dust of it. [cl:cool:[P

Spent a thrill packed 4 hours...........

...at my cardiologists this morning so decided to have some fun in the garage this afternoon.

Pics 1-2-3. Lets weld up these holes some bum put in the cowl.[S

Pic 4. Lets weld in the patch that was made yesterday. No pic of the patch welded in as I just forgot.
Plus I shot the inside of the area with some rust converter yesterday as well.

Pics 5-6. I really wanted to do lead work on this project but the reality of my lack of budget just won't allow it. But I am using Rage filler. Kind of pricey but unlike the cheaper stuff you can actually sand Rage and not just clog up your paper. A quick slicky over the welded and patched areas. Some blocking and some primer. Not the finished product by any means but it's a start....
Tomorrow on to the DS door.
Thanks for visiting.

Thanks gang......

A balmy 38 degree's here this morning. Out to the garage anyway.

Pic 1. DS door gap. This is the side of the cab that come loose from the inner supports. When I pulled it back in and welded the supports back in place this gap was the results.(Disclaimer: Please ignore that crappy weld on the window frame. Going to be cut out and redone  )

Pic 2-3. Using my little helper to get things back where they belong. Gap is better but not there yet.

Pic 4-5. Repostitioned the port-o-power and gave it another push.
Now that's better.

Pics 6-7. Taking care of some of the unfinished welding and grinding.[;)[;)

If ya ain't careful, you'll get that thing so purty you'll start working on aligning gaps again...;)

Speaking of which smallfoot ....
Todays effort.
Pics 1-2. Lets take care of this nasty piece of work. That's better.

Pic. 3 Unexceptable gap.

Pic. 4 Brake out the 1/8 rod and start tacking.

Pic. 5 Rod tacked on both sides and about half way thru the solid welding process.[;)[;)[;)[;)

Pic. 6 Close to being finished, but shows the new gap.

Pic. 7. Over view of the door top. Still need to do some tapering on the back edge to clean up where the rod stopped and a few pin holes to close up but overall I'm happy with it.
Thanks for looking in....

Tonights progress....

Had a friend stop by so we spent a little time in the garage.
Pics 1-2. He spent his time dismantling the front clip in preperation for cleaning up the fenders.

Pic. 3. I finsihed stripping the DS door. Still need to work on the gap between the door edge and the cowl but have to get some more supplys first.

Pic 4. Pulled out the steering column. Using the stock 41 car column and 3 on the tree shifter unless I get real lucky and find a cheap flathead top loader. In truth, based on the custom period that I am shooting for the 3 on the tree is more appropriate though.

Pic.5. Started to remove the cowl vent. Although I like this feature and have used it on many cars and trucks this one may be destined to be welded and filled. I still have time to make that call.....
that's it for now.
Thanks for looking in.

I hear you on the cowl vent... I want mine to work, but the replacement seal I bought is total crap. That and my vent lid is crap too... I need to find a better place to get OEM style seal, and a new lid...

Now that my own personal hell week appears to be over....

.....I got out into the shop today.

Pic. 1. First fender blasted.

Pic. 2. Other fender waiting patiently.

Pic. 3. Before shot. Last door gap DS.(I promise)

Pics. 4-5. After shot. Now that's what I call a proper door gap.[cl[ddd:D
Thanks for looking and stay safe this holiday weekend.

What did you use to blast the fender?

Open kettle siphon feed sand blaster with medium grit sand Old Iron.
I know lots of people disparage sand blasting (Makes the metal hard. Warped panels.ect.) but I have been blasting parts of car bodies since I was 14 and haven't warped anything yet. Hoods included.
My compressor is not that big or powerful (5hp/120 amp) so I take it slow and easy. Plus these fenders are extemely heavey and solid as I don't believe that they have ever been touched before.
It's what I have, so it's what I use....
Torchie.

Shoot, to me it doesn't matter what someone uses as long as it works for them.
I've got one of the pressure washer sand blasters I'm gonna use on some of my stuff.
