Ya, like old Iron said; What about us selfish guys that value your build progress much more than your well being. Sorry Torchie, I couldn't resist. As we age we learn to work 'smarter' instead of 'harder', just so we can keep up our wellbeing. Get well soon.

Houston. We have lift off.....

Thanks for the good vibes gang. I had 2 major back surgeries over 25 years ago and every once in a while it just likes to remind me of all the stupid things that I have done since then.[S
Got some help tonight and pulled the cab.
Pics 1-4 shows that process.

Pic 5. Cab down and on dolly's

Pic 6. Cab moved up towards front of the shop.

Pics 7 and 8. Frame turned around and back under the hoist so the engine and trans can be pulled. And cab with the doors removed.

I believe that half the weight of the cab is in the doors. Plan is to blast the rest of the cab. Weld up and finish the firewall. finish welding the floor bracing and on and on....
Thanks for visiting.
Torchie.

Woke up this morning and it was 40 degrees outside.....

What the heck.[S

Spent most of yesterday taking care of Mom in the nursing home things.
Did get out to the shop tpday for a little project time but man it's cold out there.
Pics 1-3. Lets start to take care of the firewall mess. When I decided to channel the cab I had to cut away a fair amount of firewall for bellhousing clearence. Plus having a flat firewall made it easier to out in the new floor framing.
I evened out the cuts on both sides and also cleaned up the upper cut inpreparation to replace the large section of missing metal.
Also cleaned up the areas aroung the holes that will need to be filled. And there are lots of them.[;)
Keeping the factory mounting spots for the solinode, The voltage regulater and where the main harness goes thru the firewall.

Pics 4-6. Also finished removing the cowl vent in pre of blasting the cowl area.

Pic.7. Collateral damage done during removal of the vent.

Pic 8. And just so you guys don't think that all I do all day is sit around looking pretty...
An example of some recycled metal garden art that is a joint effort between my artist wife and myself. We will be selling things like this as well as her glass art at the local farmers markets this summer to generate some income.
Thanks for stopping bye.
Torchie.
p.s. Thanks for all the concerns about my health. Just got to keep on keeping on.:)

My vent work good. The guy I got the cab from took the time to get it working .I will also be using It as a means to stay cool. For the two or three days we need it up here.

The cowl vent is the only air conditioning I have. I'd die without that air flow!!!

I usualy like the vent. My former DD 50 GMC panel had 2. One on the top of the cowl and one on the DS of the cowl. I used them all the time. But being as how I am buiding a period custom of sorts, one of the first things usualy done was to fill the cowl vent. This was also done on many hot rods as well.
At this point it's not exactly a high priority. Just wanted it out of there so I can clean up the area.

Todays boring stuff.......

I have about 25 small holes and some big ones to fill.[;)[;)[;)
While I was cutting out the square around all the heater hose area my wife walked into the shop and said. "I thought the point was to get rid of all the holes"
Thanks for stopping by.

Taking a break from the welding and grinding.....

So I pulled the engine and trans today.
Pics 1-3. Time to seperated the engine/trans from the frame.
1953 8ba engine hooked to a 1941-8 trans. Last go round for the flatty's in a American Ford car or truck.

Pics 4-6. Hooked up and ready to pull. Used the floor jack to get the trans off from the rear mounts and then a 2nd chain to hold the trans end up.

Pic 7. Down on the floor easy-peasy.

Pic 8. Time to finish stripping out the frame and get it out side to clean up for paint.

Thanks for visiting......

I can tell it ain't your first dance the way you set your chains....[cl
I also came to the conclusion I needed to take a break from the arc after putting roll number 6 in the machine, but as usual, soon as it was set, started burning again...jeez!
