Floor pans

I got the floor pans mocked up today. I still need to finish the drive shaft loop...not sure if I should round that or square it to keep with the lines from the trans tunnel. What do you guys think? Also the e-brake cables attached to the handle.

Going to start building the bed this week then break everything down for finish welding. [;)[;)[;)[;)

Bottom End

Just a little update and documentation. Got the bottom end put together...something that is mind numbing boring, but also very detailed and takes for ever. Setting ring end gap and checking bearing clearances...I'd rather be snipe hunting. Oh well at least the hard part is done and besides the new engine looks cool!:D:D:D:D

Not too much to update on. I've been re-arranging the shop to get ready to pull the cab off the frame. I did do some welding on the floor pans and got the frame for the bed bolted to the main frame. I added some extra metal to the main frame where the bed bolts are located then drilled and tapped each one. Should work out good. I'm also working on the fuel cell. I'm building it out of 14g cold rolled sheet metal. I have to get a fresh bottle of argon for my tig...really want the welds on it to come out clean. Also put the seats in so I could see how much room I had for the driveshaft tunnel...you know I had to sit in it for the first time and use the "air" steering wheel and gas pedal! :D

Comin along very nicely dude! RR:D

Man those seats sure look comfortable. Are you gonna leave the head rests on? Looking good!

Ty

Not sure about the head rest. Have to wait and see how the interior pans out.

.....on the air gas and steering, i just put my 5 year old in the cab and let him rip it up. LOL

Your build is looking great [P

Thanks for the props guys! With the engine done I'm fired up about getting some serious time in the shop...only thing is this pesty "job" thing keeps getting in the way! :D

Don and Sarge, thanks for the props! Don, how about an update on that RPU??? [P

Funny you mentioned the seats...I put them in and sat down in the drivers seat and started looking at the dash to get some ideas of what I wanted to do with it...I was there for a good 15-20mins and when I got up I said to myself how easy it would be to fall asleep in those things! :D

Troy, rpu is on hold for a bit. Putting all our focus on getting Dan's motor done and the car running again............Billetproof is sneaking up fast on us and still lots to do. Plus, I have the 351 engine in the machine shop for the Fox Mustang I got from my Son Don. That one is going to be my daily driver when I get it done.

So, my rpu is getting better patina on it every day it sits. :D

Start working on the bed today. I got the sides mocked up. I need to fix the bends, but I'm also trying to figure out if I need to cut a little off the back...what do you guys think? I'm thinking it looks ok...I never really wanted the tire centered in the bed. Should be able to get the rest of the bed mocked up tomorrow.

bed mock up

I started to weld the bed together. The rear part of the bed will serve as a sort of "trunk". I'll be building a tonneau cover in the coming weeks that will have weather stripping to seal that part of the bed. I got all of my parts together to start building my fuel cell. I needed a special size with the fittings in a special location...I did look into having a custom one built, but the cheapest quote I got was $450!...I've got under $100 invested in it so far. Including welding supplies and sealer I should be able to get it done for $150 - $175....I'll start it next week and keep you guys posted on how much I end up spending on it.

Wow, the bed looks really good, Troy. It is really hard to figure out the right length for one. I wrestled with how long to make the one on the rpu I am doing and decided to really bob it short now that I am not putting a radiator back there.

Nice fabrication on the sheetmetal.

Don
