YOU'RE not gonna like the custom exhaust! It will get old pretty quick mowing with a open exhaust like that. I have a B&S twin that the muffler rotted off, so I decided to leave it off, bad decision! After about 30 minutes, your ears will ring so bad you can't hear!

If you decide to leave it like that, at least get yourself some earplugs to save your hearing. If it was me, I'd had a torpedo muffler in the pipe so it would still look good, but have the exhaust at a reasonable level.

I know, if it's too loud, you're too old, but I'm old and still don't need a hearing aid!:D

Great minds think alike! :) If you look closely at the picture of my dad welding the exhaust you'll see that he's welding the pipe to a briggs & stratton torpedo muffler. The 2 1/2" exhaust tip slides right over it. We might put a screw in the back to tighten it on there but it actually fits pretty snug.

Got some primer on the front clip and shot some flat white high-temp ceramic header paint on the exhaust tip last night. Temps are dipping into the 50s for the next week so might be awhile before we can finish up the paint.

Sorry for the dark pic.. I need shop lights!!

** Edit: forgot to mention we started it up a couple days ago with the new exhaust & it sounds pretty cool.. almost like a v-twin wannabe. I think it's a little louder than stock but not unbearable.

I musta missed the pic with the muffler, glad you thought of it first![cl

I got a question on the light lens, did you use any power tools polishing that or was it all elbow grease? I like the way it turned out, I have some headlights that I need to do that to....

Just elbow grease and a couple of old t-shirts.. the kit comes with some little square buffing pads that you use in a specific order. I thought about busting out the dremel tool or cordless drill for some extra polishing power but looked so good after the first treatment I didn't bother with it.

Here's a John Deere Riding Mower that I made for my Dads 70th surprise birthday party. I spent quite a few hours on it but it was worth every minute because it was for my Dad. It does mow but you need some strong legs to pedal it very far!

Cripes that thing has to be a bear to mow with! Cool idea though and looks like you did a nice job on it!

I got paint on the tins last night - should be able to put primer on the frame, deck, & seat pan tonight and hope to be pretty much done by the end of this weekend.

More pics to come tonight..

Things should really pick up now that I've got my assistant trained![cl

You better get that thing done! Grass is lookin mighty long :D

Sorry to keep my legion of adoring fans waiting! :D

Tins are painted.. primer on the frame, deck, & seat pan.. still gotta figure out what I'm going to do for a seat. Mine was pretty well shot from sitting outside. We tried to sew up a black vinyl seat cover but found out quickly that we are not skilled in the ways of upholstery & I don't really want to shell out $50 for a universal replacement seat..

Should be able to finish most of the paint tonight & tomorrow, reassamble Saturday, then on to painting the scallops & maybe some pinstriping! [cl

OOOoohh yeah, she's almost there!!!

Got the paint slapped on & 90% reassambled.. still need to put the deck back together and hook it up. Scallops will be coming over the next few days.

My buddy and I killed a mini-keg of Heineken last night & stripped all of the paint off of it. I think I'm gonna' mount it up front like on of the old Moon gas tanks.. might even slap a moon sticker on it but I already have a couple that I was planning on putting on the sides of the chassis. You can probably tell in the picture I just made some quick straps out of galvanized pipe-hanger but I think they look pretty good so they're gonna stay (crooked in the picture because I didn't have time to get everything centered & bolted on)... might paint them black too & either scuff the tank to give it the brushed aluminum look or polish it to look more like chrome.

New shifter knob.. love it!

I think I'm gonna' call her Helmo! [ddd

Edit: you can really tell in the front-view pictures that the tires don't match (& they're both losing a little air).. that's gonna' drive me friggin' nuts but I think I'm just going to have to live with it. I can't really justify spending $150+ on a new set of matching tires, but ya' never know...

Trying to decide how I'm going to do the scallops... I'm pretty sure it's going to end up something like this

Got a little seat cushion slapped together. I banged it out pretty quick but I think it turned out pretty cool. I tried to get my Fiance' to do some red stitching but she couldn't figure out the sewing machine.. might try that again later this week..

Moon stickers too! :D

i've never built a "rat rod" mower but i did put kawasaki 220 bouya 4-wheeler motor on a old murray one time. i had a buddy that worked at a machine shop build me a driveshaft since the motor was shaft driven and even used the rearend out of the 4-wheeler. she ran like a skalded dog

Thanks for looking everyone!

millaway31 - didja' keep the deck on that badboy & cut some grass with it? :D

I'm also working on mounting some bullet-style led taillights. I had to fab some taillight bezels out of 3" PVC pipe to make them work - don't judge me [ddd

Awesome!!

That thing is pretty cool!! And yes I think you do need to build a cart to tow behind it!! It would be sweet if you could figure out a way to lower it. I saw a pic of a lowered law mower I'll see if I can find it again. Good work though!!! Way cooler than my push mower! [ddd

Mower

Hey I found the pics I had mentioned. I saw this on another website, and he also said that it still mows and works as normal!! I don't know anything else really about it. It seems like it is a mini mower to me! ha Pretty sweet still!!
