That was the way the Bondo kit instructions said to do it in the 70's. Nobody was looking for a permanent fix, just make the POS look ok for a couple more years then scrap it.

Some people shouldn't work on cars. Fiberglass over rust isn't a good solution

That makes sense that it would have come from that. I learned those methods from my dad as a young boy (he learned better methods later on). Now I know how to work with fiberglass but most things I work with aren't fiberglass and I'm not into sinking money into boats .

This reminds me of a white with blue decals 77 Trans Am that a customer brought into my dad's shop when I was a teen for a mandatory inspection. They bought the car for their 16 year old kid. The car was a total rust bucket, and the bottom of the body was remade with tin foil and spray foam which was covered in bondo and then painted. The car looked cool, but wasn't roadworthy at all.

Body work is done!! I polished one of the doors so I can get some paint matched. Big difference!!!

Well, my day involved at spray gun and some single stage blue paint. Got it laid down on all the patch pieces on the front clip. I'll let it sit for a day and start weathering it and then I will buff the rest of the truck around it. The color actually matches pretty close so hopefully this looks better than I'm anticipating

Engine had been sitting since it was built and never started. I wanted to check it out so all new gaskets from top to bottom. Looks really good. Fresh nee coat of black paint. Frame.is back under the cab. Had to make some new sleeves for the body mounts. Tried to bolt up the 4r70w transmission but needed a different flex plate. It will be here this am!!
