Not much progress over the last couple of days. Went to a car show saturday and showed the 31 and 33. No bites on the 33 yet but did get a bit of drive time out of her. Need to do something different with the steering on it. With the engine sitting more under the axle, there’s a lot more weight on it now and makes it really hard to turn. Also going to rework the motor mounts on her as the engine is sitting in there sorta funny and it’s kind of an eyesore. Also, the 31 decided to quit running on me, like it’s out of fuel but theres fuel in the tank so one of the filters might be clogged or the fuel pump quit working and the battery keeps dying so I may be looking at a different alternator for it. Might have to go with a gm one wire but haven’t dug in deep enough to see. Lots on my plate before I can drive either cars again.
So this morning, instead of sleeping or messing with the 31 or 33, decided to dive into my creative side. That is after I made a dump run and picked up some steel from a friend of mine. The ol’ lady wanted me to use some barbed wire on the car somewhere so I finally found some at the dump and decided the cowl was a good place for it. I was going to line it with bullets but decided this was going to be better. I will still remove the screws and fill the holes with 38 specials though.
All the parts from Speedway came in last night and I had a free(ish) day today. Got the wheel wells cut for the rear axle(I will beed a wider axle), split and bent the fat fendered bones, got the brakes installed on the front, and started on the frame. Front half is done minus grinding welds down and fish plating the seams. I plan on reinforcing the lower section of the frame and welding in some big gussets. I’ve got some long work days agead of me so that’s prolly all I’ll have for a week or so. All in all, a very productive day.
Frame is almost finished. Will need to clean up the fish plates that are already welded kn, weld in the holes, and weld on the other 8 plates. Then, I need to find a wider rear end as the 8” I have hits the wheel wells, set it under the frame, drop the body back on the frame, and mock up the engine and transmission so I can figure out where the motor mounts will need to go.
