More progress on the sheetmetal work. Cowl is pretty much done, also the rocker panels. Front part of the floor is done with a removable panel and a wood insert for access to the mechanicals. Skinned the front seat riser with mount holes for the FnR switch and charge outlet. Got one quarter panel tacked in, starting on the other side.

Just a little bigger and you'd be building a regular Deuce roadster. I wish I was there to watch you do the metal work.

Most of the metal work is welding and grinding. My 22 year old Century Mig welder has been acting up, overheating the wire before it feeds it out, making it stick to the tip, so there's been a lot of bird poop welding happening  For that reason I try to dress up the embarrassing ugliness before showing pics .

It has occurred to me that if it was bigger, it could be a real car though the whole objective here is to keep the hot rod impulses under control since it is just for buzzing around the wrinkle ranch with a 10 MPH speed limit [ddd. Don't want to pee off the fossils and get kicked out...
I've had a little practice with this type of body build, here's a very similar one I built in 2004, big blocks are fun

You sir have some amazing metal skills!!! The one built in 04 looks like you rolled flames in the fire wall?? That is a sweet idea!!

Wasting no time on the build I see!!! What color is going to be on the finished product??

Yeah, crazy huh? Lots of possibilities when you're playing with new metal and the wife's not watching.....:)

What color is going to be on the finished product??

Gold maybe.. that's what she wants..

Made the rear wheel tubs and welded them in, I rolled a lip on the inner piece before welding the pieces together so the tubs don't have such a sharp edge. Looking at where the rear panel will go and realized there was not enough depth for the 39 Ford tail lights  so I had to notch the corners of the frame. I'll weld them up when the body comes back off.

On the full size roadster, did you frame the doors and door openings with square tubing?

Yep, it made for a simple strong door, I just welded the skin around the edges. since it was a roadster with no windows, I didn't see the need for a weather stripping step in the frame.

As always zz awesome work. I would like to ask a couple questions though,if you were to put it in "scale" would it be 1/2 or maybe 3/4 the size of a full sized 32? And what size tires you running in this lil' beast?

Good lord you make me sick!!!! Just at how fast you do this and how well it looks!! Any finished pictures of the full scale roadster? What ever became of that?

Looking good zz... When you going to build one of these karts on air suspension???

I've never measured a 32 but the body on this one is 8" wider than the 2004 car

Yeah, I thought of it but more complexity and weight - not that it could never happen....[ddd

Made the rear panel and welded it in, mounted the tail lights. Before welding in any more body pieces, I figured it would be much easier at this point to fab up the trunk hinges, got on it and started making the framework for the lid.

Finished making the trunk lid frame and mounted it, used a small bear claw latch to close it, don't think I'll skin it 'till the quarters are finished in case things change shape a little after all the welding. Bent up some sheet to make the side filler pieces for the seat riser and tacked them in. This will complete the floor since the seat bottom and back will be removable for battery access as will the trunk floor.
