a long story i do have to tell,
driving my Lark away from home one eve
crossing the Cook Straight, ferry and swell
arriving at midnight all was well
a Holiday park in a town - Levin
Heading further north to a beach resort
to a 5 day event, so many cars of all sort.
away the next day a good coffee i sought.
oh theres a loud clunking i thought
A lost bolt in the sway bar mount was there
phew, bolts supplied from a local parts store
there i was away once more
the Lark ran strong and polite on gas
despite my leadfoot, needing to pass
everything in my way ,
even the cop didnt spoil my day.
nearer to lunch time a stop Lake Taupo
now a huge lake once a large volcano
we made to families house where we stayed for 4 nights
drank beer shared stories and laughed a bit
daily visits to the event wow what a sight
in fact so many it was impossible to guess
how many were there until the last day
when Noddy Watts announced 2000+ to play
i think back to it now quite unbelieving ..
its the biggest event this boy ever saw
lots of sparkely bits, bare rust and all
awestruck was he it was unreal
so the journey home was a bit of an rrrs
The poor old Lark still wanted to play
with all the "big kids" she'd seen those days
packing a snot , with who knows what
changed to coil the condenser and such,
made no difference really well not much
short on fuel i topped her up, better? nope
next to go was the old fuel pump
the Lark didnt run at all after that
call the resuce guys, suggested a tow rope
from that, the only success - reversed fuel hoses
i assembled back to front, we came up roses.
the next 3 hrs went into night
heading to my sisters the Lark well behaved
but only till the very next day
onwards we went back to the ferry
finally swapped the vacuum advance
there it was she purred like an old kitten
on the Picton side nearly home i thought
fed her some gas same problem she'd bought
from the north island, the spare had failed.
right i thought i want to get home
and feed her the fat
we made made it in the end
and that was that..
there is so much more i could add to the ranks
passing 3 volcanos, war museum with tanks
other than to say , 1100+ miles over 5 days
and vacuum advance blew it guts.
id do it all again tomorrow , best 5 days
New part on the way .. thanks Rockauto
