alternator

alternator is on.... once again the pack rat in me saved the day :D

l had all the brackets from 25 years of stashing them. problem is it took me 3 hours, 3 buildings and whole lot of boxes and hidey holes to find'em all.

organizing is not my strong point:(

0h well, it's done, now to find the right belt in my stash of fan belts, but there hanging on the wall

Looks like you are making some good progress Skull! Those are the exact same headlights I'm using in the Willys but unfortunately I've not made enough progress on them to know how good they work yet. :eek: I only have one installed and I've only hooked power to the small bulb............I think I'm going to use a separate blinker and use the built in bulb for a park light though, like the old VW's.

found these cool lookin' fog lights, gonna use them for a little extra seeing power on those dark summer nights.

working on a bunch of little things,,amazing how the little things eat up so much time, 4 hours in just odds & ends today,

started

l been working the last few weeks on fixing the oil leak and putting in the wiring to the point where l could start the engine and let it run awhile, finally got there yesterday.

so l fired it up and let it run about 5 minutes. it runs good, sounds great and holds about 50 PSl on the oil gauge.

now need to change the fuel line and rerun it so it clears the new floor pan, put the wiring in looms & secure them in place, figure out where the headlights are gonna be, start putting in the firewall & floor & seat on the passenger side and mocking up the body.

the tail lights are going to be the stock ones that came on the car and the trunk mounted one will be a third brake light.

going to be a busy month,[;)

progress

l started to get the rear-end leaf springs changed and discovered the ones l have won't work.:(

but, l have a buddy who has a lot of camaro parts laying around and l scored a set of springs from him l gotta go pick up later this week.:D

after l get the springs changed to the correct one's, the rear-end itself is next.

yes, it is blocked up, there under the frame just ahead of the rear-end.

then the fun, l have'ta figure out how to run the exhaust. washington state law RCW's say's it has to exit past the last passenger compartment.

l had my helper all day, he's better than a shop dog.:D:D

l hope to get some more done soon. going slower than l want, but that's life.

A-arms

l found these powder coated upper tubular A-arms for 5O bucks each:Dheck l couldn't make them for that[;)

l really didn't need the $3OO to $5OO hundred super braced race ones since this thing will never see hard racing again, just street driving, and if need be l can always run a tube or two to strengthen it up.

that will fix the hacked up butchered unsafe stock ones and it will still have the adjustable weight jacks to set the car level and align the front end for street drivability.

they'll be here next week, pics with them on soon after.

yes it was new parts, 112 bucks total with shipping right to my front door.

sway bar

l also gotta figure out a sway bar for the front.

when the previous owner re-arranged the suspension/shocks/weight jacks it messed up the stock mounting places for the front sway -bar:(

not sure if l want to run a rear sway-bar:confused:

weld

I know from my racing days that some stock car builders are real hillbillies but there is some scary welding/craftsmanship on that car

ya l know[;) getting all sorted out and fixin' the border line stuff.

all rubber fuel lines, rear springs bent to crappy angles, top A-arms cut up to clear the weight jacks and a few other things are high on the list to fix. l never would have raced it the way it was and l am surprised the tracks let them race it this way,,l WOULD NOT HAVE LET IT ON THE TRACK.

nice thing is the actual main body is got really good welds and the cage welds are top notch..just some of the add ones the previous owner did are "goober" welds.

that is one reason it's taking a little longer to finish than l hoped..safety first[;)

brake light switch

for the brake lights l am using a pressure activated in line switch.

the switch will be positioned between the hard brake line and the the rubber brake line.

so much easier than trying to fab up a mechanical type activated off the brake pedal.

stuff today

rear-end removal, nothing like a "fire wrench" to cure a stubborn bot or two[cl

new rear-end will go in soon, l hope by next week.

l figured out the headlights:D

front shocks & rear shocks were removed and tossed, they were junk:eek:

front sway bar may or may not go on, depends on how or if l redo the shock mounts.

l took a 3LB hammer and whacked a super hard blow to the front shock mounts and those "goober" weld are really strong, the hammer just bounced off. there just ugly as sin so l will do some grinding & cleaning & re-shape the sharp edges and call it good.

l inspected the front rubber brake lines and there junk too.:(

so many things l am ahead on by getting a running car, but still have to fix so many little things they screwed up.

but still happy overall with the car:D


old ford truck hood makes a great sled to move things around the yard.
