This old Gulf station is in a small town near me so I had to get a shot of my Nova in front of it!

In our area in days of yore my Dad got free glassware with a fill up. Got re-refined bulk oil for 10 cents a quart.

The man across the street from my parents owned 3 Enco stations. I worked at one that was a few blocks from our house & we gave away plates & glasses as promotions on a regular basis. It was full service & gas was 19.9¢ a gallon! I guess that gives away my age!

From Wikipedia:

"The McColl-Frontenac Oil Company was an oil company based in Canada. It was created in 1927 as a result of a merger between two companies, McColl Brothers, founded by John McColl in 1873, and Frontenac Oil Refineries. Shares in the new company were acquired by the Texas Company, and by 1941 it had acquired a majority ownership position of McColl-Frontenac. At that time, the oil company was rebranded as Texaco. McColl-Frontenac was known for its branding of its oil and products as "Red Indian". In 1989, Texaco Canada was acquired by Imperial Oil."

Hard to find images of Red Indian stations...

One pump named for each of the Dionne Quintuplets. (Apparently, an uncle owned the Red Indian station and had the pumps painted to honor the quints and/or benefit from the media frenzy. [S)

This is a really great thread and collection of pics.

Doc I think that building in Shackleton is still standing, I was out there setting a propane tank for grain drying and took a drive through the old village.

That night Shell photo is amazing Doc :D

I remember the 19.9cent gas Tripper. We had several stations close together and they would battle on price. Paid close attention as a kid waiting to see something cool parked there.

Dang Tripper, that looks almost just like the store my Great Uncle ran when I was a kid! I remember his being wider in front, maybe double what that one is. One thing the same though is the attached living area on the end! He and my Great Aunt lived in that two or three room area for years until they built a new house when he sold the store and retired. My nephew owns the house they built now, they passed away in the 70’s.
Oh, and the store burned to the ground in the 80’s, there’s a non descriptive metal store building now. Back then it was a Texaco, now it’s an off brand.

Registered bathrooms!
