It is a cool little powertrain that should work great. I can build the car 2.5 inches lower and have more suspension travel with this motor. The motor is a 210 horsepower (same hp per cubic inch as 600 hp 350 chevy) 2.0 L 4 cylinder with variable valve timing on intake and exhaust, titanium valves, 11.5:1 compression, 8,600 rpm redline, ecu is a 4 wire hook-up with no immobilization in it. Factory big tube header that I can modify. Transmission is a close ratio six speed. It should be fun and get decent mileage.

...and the skinny transmission will let me have more foot room.

What is not to love other than it is a JDM motor that I would have to wait on parts if I needed something.

I decided to use a toyota instrument cluster to avoid buying aftermarket gauges. A buddy at work gave me a mr2 cluster...but not the wiring harness ends. I spent most of the day at pull a part searching cars for plugs that fit the gauges and the ecu. While there, I also found a decent toyota leather interior. Much better than any seats currently in the barn.

Did a little work making this motor left hand drive friendly. Stock exhaust was tri-Y header, but I didn't get the lower half. I tweaked the top half to tuck tighter and built a lower half out of the sprintcar headers that I used for the flatbeds headers. Header fits great...lots of steering shaft room....sits above scrub line.

Same concept as my shoebox. Going with a 4 cylinder providing more room, less weight and still more power that the original engine.

Flipper, I'm excited to see how this turns out.....did you pull the
eng and trans and if so what Toyota did it come from? I've had
another project in the back of my mind that I wanted to do something simlar.
Wiring it up to run is one of my main concerns, when it comes to tech. stuff
feels like I dropped out in the third grade....

This engine was only offered in a car that was never sold in the US. It is the Toyota Alezza. It is similar to the Lexus IS300. I bought mine from an importer. Search ebay for 3SGE BEAMS.

beams 4 banger eh? those things have some astronomical redline too, I wanted to put one in a 88-95 toyota minitruck once upon a time.

super super great!

For some reason, I thought I had posted an update in February for my suspension project.

I had to butcher the jag crossmember to make room for the Toyota motor ( it is front sump). I am now putting the strength back in. I added 2x3 forward of the sump and 1x2 underneath.

Now I am trying to make it pretty by blending the 2x3 into the jag crossmember. Pockets for bushings are 90s camaro subframe bits.

A lot of effort for something nobody will ever see....but I enjoy cutting, grinding and welding junk.

...and just think, I ditched the jag motor because it wouldn't fit. I just wasn't in the mood to make it work at the time is probably more like it.

But I think I will enjoy the revvy four cylinder more with the peace of mind that it is a toyota.

I still need to box in where I made the original cuts.

Done. ....for now?

I made 2x3 angle from a piece of 2x3 tube.

Frankenstein for sure.
