I think the wheels are gonna work out too. For $160 for the set (with 2 new tires)....I was willing to give them a try.

Even though I had the 5.3 motor mocked up, I'm not 100% ready to say no to the jag motor. I think I am going to poke a straight six through the firewall this weekend.

The LS makes the most sense, but.......
 
Hey Flipper, have you been taking the flat bed to any shows this year? I didn't see any pics.
 
Only a couple. The motor developed a "tick" that I could not track down. I ended up sticking another motor in it.

I also swapped hoods.

No jag motor mock up but I did pull the front springs out to see how low it would go. ...not near as low as I hoped.

Can you even turn the front wheels with it that low?[S
Looks like the tires would hit the fenders unless you narrowed the front track.:eek:

No I can't turn the wheels as is. This was a mock up exercise to figure out how to make these parts work with this car.

I replaced the truck-ish tires with car-ish tires on the front. I went with 225/45/18s from wally world. They look really good in person.

The car will probably sit a few inches higher in real life. I can't decide if I'm going to narrow the front suspension or re-work the wheel openings.

I took the 48 flatbed to the Turkey Drags this weekend. ....and the new motor with the comp 268H and stock converer is way slower than the old combo. While crossing a set of railroad tracks, I drug the hell out of the bottom of my truck.

I jo not want to do this with the stude. The stude needs to have decent clearance even if it kills the Bonneville look. So, I guess I won't need to tuck the front wheels.

The body style you have , imo you are fortunate to have one.

I didn't notice the radiused wheelwells, I was focusing on the hood and grill.
 
I have been obsessed with trying to get the front bumper close to the ground to the point I was going to build a crappy car.

Now, I am leaning towards a sensible ride height and an air dam under the bumper if it needs it.

No more ls or jag motor....it is going to be toyota 4 cylinder powered. 3sge and a six speed manual.

It is a cool little powertrain that should work great. I can build the car 2.5 inches lower and have more suspension travel with this motor. The motor is a 210 horsepower (same hp per cubic inch as 600 hp 350 chevy) 2.0 L 4 cylinder with variable valve timing on intake and exhaust, titanium valves, 11.5:1 compression, 8,600 rpm redline, ecu is a 4 wire hook-up with no immobilization in it. Factory big tube header that I can modify. Transmission is a close ratio six speed. It should be fun and get decent mileage.

...and the skinny transmission will let me have more foot room.

What is not to love other than it is a JDM motor that I would have to wait on parts if I needed something.
