Now how you gonna get the Jag out of the shop? [S

Does it now have a gasser stance, or is it just the way the pic was taken?

Very cool car. I worked on a Stude drag car in the early 60's it had a J2 Olds with 3-2bl carbs. It was a wicked fast car for the time.

Wheel / front suspension mock up. 205/70/15 won't work for stupid low

To get the jag front end in there, the spring pockets need to be removed from the frame rails. I'm sectioning a piece out of the pocket and fitting a piece of 2x3 steel in there to bypass the spring pocket and connect the frame rail to the frame horn....and give the jag stuff a place to sit. I still have to add fishplates and gussets...and trip away the last of the pocket.

I'm getting excited about this car. It is hard to stay on the conservative side of hot rodding, but I think it will be fun when done. I think we are going with the 1954 jag engine and trans since it is the same year as the stude and it has a prettier, simpler looking intake manifold. I know I'm giving up horsepower by not going V8, but it should make up for it in coolness. Staying with the 15x6 wheels too. I may play with tire sizes a little to adjust the stance, but staying small-ish with the tires should help the weaker motor do more.

Thinking about blitz black for body color and rustoleum antiqe nickle for the trim.

I went to the Nashville swap meet today looking for headlight assemblies and door handles. ..... I didn't find any stock stude stuff.

I did find some "chevy truck" headlight assemblies (minus bezels) to use as a starting point. Now I need to find some kind of headlight ring that can be adapted to the front of a stude.

The headlights may be chevy AD.

Even though I like the idea of using a "different" engine like a vintage jaguar, I am wondering how much better the car would be with a V8 and automatic.

A nicely tuned straight six Jag runs smooth as silk. With a decent exhaust system they sound awesome too. Manual box is a big plus imo. I`d say killer combo

Getting closer to it being a studeuar. Still needs a little more trimming to sit in the perfect spot.

I also played with headlight rings. I dont own a set of stock headlights, but I do have 48 studebaker (upside down in pics), 70s vw bug, and 48 chevy truck. Right now I'm leaning towards chevy truck, but I want to french the lights a tad to be flush with the ring.

Looks like I am going to have a hell of a time getting a jag engine under a studebaker hood. Half the engine needs to be inside the car. There is plenty of height back by the firewall, but the hood slopes down pretty good forward of there.

LS time?

15 inch jaguar wheels with sensible tires or 18x9.5 corvette wheels with 275/35 tires?

Personally, I think they are both about a 1% improvement over the rust pitted chrome modulars. But that's just me. :D I am a bit of an old school guy when it comes to wheels. They have to "fit" the project. Of the two, I would prefer the Jag wheels. But, big and little Anson Sprints come to mind, or Sprints on the back and Torque Thrust or kidney beans on the front would get me smiling.

i got a feelin', though, that whatever you decide to run with will be cool. I'll shut up now.
