This is what 6 hours of sanding gets you. A bottom almost ready for coating.
First 5 pics are during and after the first sanding with 40 grit and a grinder.
Second 5 pics are during and after the air board and 80 grit.
I will go over it once more checking for screw heads showing and to fill a couple of screw holes then I will tape it off.

Gone from stripes to spots.
Just a little touch up. I plan on being done with the sanding today.

We are on a schedule now.

Got rid of all the spots.
Then ripped the rest of the chine caps.
Papered and taped off.
2 wet coats of CPES.
Now we wait. Cure time is 24-48 hours weather dependent.
This will be followed by 5-6 coats of Interlux 2000E barrier coat. One coat every 3 hours so no sanding in between needed.

I will do 4 more coats alternating between white and grey to insure complete coverage of each coat.

Copper bottom paint. It's what was used on most of them unless ordered other wise

Factory warranty was 6 months, soltz.
Chris Craft figured maybe 6 -10 seasons out of a bottom.
I told my wife that if there is anything left of this boat in 50 years it would be the bottom.

I'd wager a bet on your side that is a good possibility.

Put the final coat of moisture barrier on this evening. That makes 5 total.
Now we both will rest for a few days.[cl
Last pic shows the tape pulled off to reveal where the water line goes.
Being a Riviera it will get a double boot stripe. Red and white.
The exposed mahogany gets stained and varnished to match the sides.

Now that the temps are back up where they belong.....
Put the first of 2 coats of Hard Racing Copper Bronze paint on the boat bottom.
One more coat to go..

These bottoms get way more coatings then they did back when they were built OI.
Here are some pics of the bottom once the paint had flashed. Better idea of the true copper color.
I'm not real happy with the looks of the bottom right now. I should have spent some more time on sanding the bottom but I figured 6 hours would be enough.
That's the problem with no feeling in my hands. In the old days I would have felt everyone of those marks that showed up upon painting.
It still needs the second coat so I am weighing some options at this point....
