Bumper is mounted, decided to punch the holes and use the stock style rubber grommets over the bumper irons. In these pics, it's just loosely bolted on and sitting on the tailpipes, final position is 3/4" above the pipes..

Irons are made of 2" x 1/4" bar stock, doubled and welded together for the frame stubs.

Been working on a trailer hitch - bought
a receiver tube and fabbed the rest, mount tabs will weld to the rear crossmember.

attachment.php

Made a license mount that slips into the hitch receiver to hide the hitch from the rear view.

Plate mount pulls out and mounts on a higher tube so the
hitch can fit below.

The plate does stand out from the bumper a bit but I think its a livable compromise.. Looking at it now, I think I'll make a shroud around the plate to fill the gap between the plate and bumper for a more finished look. [;)

Great idea ZZ. The fabrication of the hitch mount looks really strong. Well done, as always!

That,s an excellent idea. I may be borrowing it.[cl
Thanks, be my guest :)

I'm guessing the owner has plans to pull something..... can you share
what that might be....I'm sure it won't be problem with that hitch

Yeah, it's sort of a bucket list thing for him, to do some extended cruising, maybe pulling a Boler or similar small trailer.

Made a shroud to fill the gap and better hide the whole hitch mounting system, it will get a rubber welt put on the edge to fit it tight to the bumper.

Nice job on a difficult presentation. "Form follows function." [cl

If I had my way, we wouldn't have to deal with license plates at all. They never seem to add to the "look" of a car. At best, we try to make them look not terrible.

Looks like Packard put it there. [cl

I can't agree more. My least favorite modification is a license plate "frenched" into the long, sweeping trunk lid of a coupe. Yuck!

.

Modifying some more stock parts... deleting the factory pedestals for the tail lights. Cut out a piece to match the fender shape, the primered one is the original drivers side one that had a clear lens and plate mount on the top, they will get welded up.

attachment.php

Made a base plate with nuts welded to it to bolt to the stock holes.

Pass side tacked on

Both mounted in place, another subtle change completed.
