Checking part numbers on the Yamaha site,
http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/service/servicehome/home.aspx
the part numbers are not exactly the same for the
Middle Drive gear and the Middle Drive box assemblies,
comparing the XS850 to XS1100 for 1980.

Some parts are definitely the same, bearings and gaskets etc.
But I can't say the important stuff will interchange for sure.

Not to worry yet.... first thing is to find a cheap runner then start doing heavy reaserch after that...

Yes, it is a dry sump system, uses a separate oil tank.
Don't remember the exact details of the plumbing,
but the screw in the middle is for the pressure bypass.
They were made from billet, welded to a stock rocker cover,
then finish machined.

I forget the name of the guy that did them,
but seriously doubt they are still available new.

Might be possible to adapt a VW "stage and a half"
pump to a SOHC motor, driven off the cam.
CB makes them. One large scavenge stage,
one smaller pressure stage.

But you wouldn't have a pressure bypass, without adding one separately.

Might be able to find a pump from a bike,
with a built in pressure relief, something like this:

Might have to add a seal on the drive shaft,
to convert a pump to external use.

In their production applications, if they leak a little oil
around the drive shaft, it just goes back inside the motor.

Not quite what I had in mind....bit off the wall...makes my idea seem kind of simple.Dont want to slam the poor guy but it seems like such a wast of time for an ugly piece of crap.... ...he will probably think the same of my idea.

Anyways ...shure is hard to find any info on tq midget cb 750 motors I have been scouring the net for days and have not found one pickture of a cut down motor.Been entering every phrase I can think of relating to 3/4 midget racers.....lots of race picks but no motor build picks....weird....like they never existed.....

Definitely OLD technology, the last one I saw was mid 80s.
But the Honda CB motor came out in 69, so there is no way
it would be competitive today.

You MIGHT get lucky here: http://b4.boards2go.com/boards/board.cgi?user=canammidgets

Bob Myers (Buffalo NY?) built a few cars, with CB 750 power, in the early to mid 80s.
The motor looked exactly like the one pictured earlier, with an Aluminum
plate covering where the trans used to be. but I never saw one with the
driveshaft disconnected, so I don't know how the coupling was done.

Yaaa.. few more build picks still hard to see what he did for oiling and lighting ....be nice to see with covers off....wonder if he plated the one side or made a whole new bottom case .....probably just plated it....trans close ups would be nice..with couplings .....slowly we are undressing her....

Right click on a pic, select View Image,
then you can hold down CTRL and hit the + key to zoom in. [cl

I think Ignition is on the left, oil is on the right.
As near as I can figure, there are 2 oil pumps.

Sesco was building V8 engines for USAC Midgets in the early 80s.
They made the crank and crankcase, and used Japanese bike barrels and heads. :D [ddev Good luck finding one now though.
