Looks like that swooping downtube thing was a henderson ace trait. Then when indian bought them out whent to a cheif style frame for economy I guess one frame casting fits all but just a little different for the four I know lots of stuff is interchangable with other models like scout tanks ,handlbars, footboards, pedals wheels ,forks, lights, fenders.A good idea that Ford or GM should be doing now one chassis fits lots of models...I know they do it to a point but they always seem to be trying to reinvent the wheel and now ya arent a mechanic you are a technician.

O.K. so couple one of those bevel gears directly to the end of the inline four then on the drive side of the bevel gear a doublerow sprocket and chain like a primary chain to a harley or other transmittion on the cluch side then on the opposit/sprocket end of the harley or other trans a chain to the rear wheel thats what I see.

the only other option is some kind of clutch set up on the end of the four to a bmw trans to a shaft drive but the sprocket and chain set up seems easyer as long as those bevel gears and chain hold up... ya follow me wish I could draw or use one of those cad type programs and make it a visual moving diagram.

So on Cooks ya think the clutch is on the end of the motor bettween the motor and trans would like to see how everything is coupled together.

The stock HD trans has the input and output on the left side.

Some of the $$$ aftermarket trans have the output on the right,
for the "big tire" crowd.

I think If you had a single sprocket on the end of the crank,
and another on the input of the bevel box, they could be connected
with a double row chain.
I've got a Browning catalog somewhere, I'll look and see.

Then use a regular HD sprocket on the output to drive the trans.
You can probably get HD trans in electric, or kick, or both.

mmmm... still confusing need a simple diagram...[S there are harley trans or others with the sproket opposit the cluch side guess there are a few different ways to go intersting we found the bevel drive sets that could help with using a chain set up instead of a drive shaft ....

mmm.now i see most harley trans have clutch and drive on same side was thinking of my indian has the clutch on one side and drive on the opposite guess depends on what somebody has lying around....

Motor at the top, coupling to bevel drive in Magenta,
primary drive chain in Red, final drive chain in Green.

Harley trans shown, because they are easier to find.
Once you get the power to the trans,
it becomes the same as any other bike.

The trans could be from a HD, Indian, pre unit Triumph, etc.

Nice....may be a bit long looking but still cool could even go 6 speed and electric start. Mayby a little long looking....was thinking about fuel injected motor ...are the newer fours fuel injected... also wonder what would be the best scookum coupling to use. [cl[dr

When Confederate made their first bikes, they rotated the transmission forward 90 degrees( or was it backwards?).[S
Anyway, it saved them a couple inches on the length of the driveline.

With a little planning, you could run the shortest primary chain possible, to save a little length. I just drew it quickly, and out of scale.

A lot of the new bikes are fuel injected, but they are water coolers.

Carbs would be easiest short term, from there, Megasquirt/Microsquirt is one option.
