Well I finally got some of my wrenches replaced today and got right to work. I got the seat out and the second door off. I took apart the front air assembly and cleaned it out. (not too sure what its called) I started sanding the rust off of the air intake so I can prime it. I am currently at a stand still on the motor. One of the connecting rods has a stripped stud. im going to have it re threaded tomorrow. I am also going to get my first lesson in welding. My uncle invited me to stop out to his place. He is going to give me a hand with the doors and hopefully the cab floor.

I also found that the passenger side door has glass. i was amazed. I really hadnt paid too much attention to it until today. I figured as bad as it was smashed in it had to be gone. But to my amazement its all there.

Now I am thinking i really dont want to sand this cab down by hand. I am wondering what type of sander I should be looking for any ideas??

Stripped out!

Well I figured with all of the nice weather we have been having I would spend some serious time on the sbc tonite. Well connecting rod #5 was a little on the screwed up side. The bottom 3 threads were folded onto each other. Thats what I get for hammering on things, i know. Well I took it in to have it re-died and got it back the other day. Well today I watched the threads just peel righ off of the one side. I was pretty mad at myself but i had to laugh watching them literally melt off.

So tomorrow i am heading back to the machine shop in hopes that they can replace those studs. If not i am going to need one connecting rod. Anybody got an extra they wanna sell??
:mad::mad:

thanks, moronthethrotle, i'm glad it turned out so well for rockb1 and getting me a big ol buick wasnt so bad either....:D:cool:dp1

Well I dropped it off at the machine shop where I have been getting a lot of my work done. The guy takes one look at it and says come see me in a hour. Well I was on my way to work so I had to stop back this morning. Man they do great work. For a couple of bucks I was back in business.

So tonite. I got that last piston in. Buttoned up the bottom end and put on the heads. Tomorrow I really hope to have it all back together and ready for paint.

Ill get ya guys some more pictures tomorrow.

Well With the frame in my garage reality really has set in. I know I really need to get going on this thing if Im going to have it running by June. Problem is I am stuck again. Who would have ever thought that there could be so many problems, lol.

So I get the heads on and put in all of my rods and rockers. I get the passenger side all buttoned up and now Im cruisin. I get to the last 3 rockers on the driver side and I notice that #2 & 3 will not torque. Well like a fool I keep turning. Finally I notice that I am getting nowhere. Those two studs have pulled up in the head. So now I sit scratching my head, bummed! Well back to the machine shop.

My guy tells me he is so far backed up that he has no idea when he will get to it. So I have been buying up parts and on a steel hunt. I need to purchase the goods to do my floor. I can only weld on Sunday since that is the only day my Uncle is available. Oh well just another speed bump right. Im hoping to get some real progress on those doors this weekend.

Man that sucks for sure. It'll come together eventually and be all worth it (at least thats what I'm telling myself on mine).

Ok rock, just a small bump in the road. Check with your local parts store or go to Speedway and look up part #577-RM348. If you can borrow a 7/16-14UNC tap from someone your total setback will only be $8.99+shipping. Use two fine threaded nuts jambed together to tighten, or spend the extra $20 on the studs with a jamb nut already built into the stud. I also added loctite to make darn sure they weren't goin anywhere....had a mechanical cam, so I had to reset the rockers every week or two.

Or if you would rather pin the studs SW has a kit for that too, #550-806.

I prefer the screw in studs, but the pins will work well for a lower lift street cam...I had a set of pinned studs, but running high RPM & high lift caused one to pull out. I tapped mine with the head still on, don't know that I recommend it, but I did it at the track between hot laps and heat races. Someone at the track had an extra stud & tap on hand....lucky break!

Thanks guys! Im actually taking both of them in to have them cleaned up real nice and the guy at the shop said he take care of me. So just a few more days of waiting. But hey when its done they will be all clean and fresh and hopefully no problems. Im sure I needed this setback. Now I will have a totally clean motor. No isues, Hopefully!

Now Im waiting on parts!! I ordered my front and rear brakes the other day along with front shocks, a wiper motor, and maybe a set of nice doors. Depending on what the guy wants for them. I spent most of the day out riding. Took a long trip up north with all of my buddies for our annual blessing of the bikes. Came home and started sanding and straightening the cab. Ill post up some pics tomorrow. Stupid dead batteries!

Well I am sanding away. I noticed that someone else had filled a few other spots on the cab before me. No big deal its just amazing to see just what work had been done in the past. I started receiving parts today. Nothing major just the wheel cylinders and carb. Here are a few pictures from yesterday. Im going to take more tomorrow when I recharge my batteries.

Well today was a great day! I picked up a set of seats, pedals, and a heater. Not too sure what Im gonna do with the heater yet but I got a good deal on it all. I also received via fedex my front brake setup. And last but not least I got a bunch of steel today for the floor build. My buddy with the welder backed out on me so here i sit truing to find some help. I may just have to bite the bullet and buy one myself. Ill have some pictures up later
